Why Becoming Feels Like Losing Control

Capacity

There is a point in becoming when growth no longer feels expansive, it feels destabilizing.

The closer we move toward a life that is truly ours, the more the identities, patterns and forms of control that once protected us begin to loosen. What feels like losing ourselves may actually be the experience of releasing a self we can no longer inhabit.

In this unscripted conversation, I explore the intensity of becoming: the nervous system’s resistance to unfamiliar ways of living, the impulse to repair every disruption, the masks we mistake for identity, and the strange truth that the goal is rarely the goal.

The goal is the person we become while walking toward it.

Capacity may not mean learning to hold everything more tightly.

It may mean becoming able to release more completely.

This recording was made from inside the intensity it describes—not as a report from the other side, but as a document of moving through.
